Red Haven Peach (Prunus persica)
Red Haven, usually written ‘Redhaven’, is a well-known yellow peach used as a harvest benchmark for other cultivars. It is a versatile home-orchard fruit for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving.
Key Characteristics
Sweet yellow flesh and a red blush
Its fruit develops good color and a balanced peach flavor. Harvest in several passes to catch individual fruit at the stage you prefer.
Pit release improves with ripeness
Redhaven can cling to the pit when harvested firm and becomes more freestone as it fully ripens. Choose riper fruit for easy halving and firmer mature fruit for careful handling.
A useful resistance trait
Redhaven has useful tolerance to bacterial spot. It still benefits from thinning, an open canopy, and routine monitoring for brown rot and fruit-feeding insects.
Pollination Partners
Self-fertile; a second tree is not required. Cross-pollination depends on overlapping bloom, not matching harvest months.
Rootstock and Mature Size
Plan for approximately 15–20 feet at maturity, depending on site and pruning. The offered variant identifies the rootstock; keep the graft union above soil level and remove rootstock suckers.

General Peach Orchard Guidance
A good start
Choose well-drained soil and enough room for the mature tree. Water consistently while roots establish, mulch with space around the trunk, and keep vigorous grass and other competitors away from the young root zone.
Fertility and fruit-tree guilds
Use a soil test to guide lime and fertilizer rather than feeding heavily by default. Our Tree Planting Kit fertilizer blend is an optional planting supplement; keep concentrated fertilizer away from bare roots and avoid excess nitrogen.

Practical pest and disease care
Peaches and nectarines fruit on the previous season’s growth, so annual pruning and early thinning help maintain light, fruit size, and branch strength. Remove mummified fruit and monitor for brown rot, leaf curl, and plum curculio. Use sanitation, fruit bags where practical, and locally appropriate organic care; avoid insecticides during bloom.
