The Jonathan apple tree is a popular variety known for its sweet, juicy apples that are perfect for eating fresh, baking, or canning. The apples are medium to large in size and have a round to slightly conical shape. They have a red or red-striped skin and a yellow flesh. Jonathan apples are typically ripe in early to mid-October.
Fruit Size: Medium to large

Apple Tree Pollination:
Jonathan apples are self-fertile, meaning that they can produce fruit without another apple tree nearby. However, cross-pollination with another variety of apple tree can improve fruit production and quality. See our Pollination page for more information on cross-pollination varieties and requirements!
Winter chilling: Approximately 700–800 hours; published nursery estimates are approximate.
Pollination partners: Plant a different compatible cultivar nearby with overlapping bloom for reliable cross-pollination. A second tree of this same named variety does not provide cross-pollination. Suggested partners: Apple, Golden Delicious, Apple, Granny Smith.
