Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) is a large, deciduous tree that is native to North America valuable for both timber and landscaping. The Green Ash tree's good form and high resistance to insects and disease has made it a very popular ornamental tree. It is also a very effective tree to use when creating a windbreak. The Green Ash is adaptable to a wide variety of soils and can tolerate compacted soil as well as areas that flood for a short period of time. It is hardy to climatic extreme and has a moderately high drought tolerance.
Green Ash wood is used for a variety of purposes, including furniture, flooring, and lumber. The wood has great shock resistance and is commonly used for tool handles and baseball bats! It is also an excellent choice for wildlife. The tree provides food and shelter for a variety of birds and mammals, the seeds are eaten by squirrels, chipmunks, and other small animals, and the leaves are eaten by deer and other herbivores.
