Kwanzan Flowering Cherry (Prunus 'Kanzan' (also called Kwanzan))
Kwanzan, also known as Kanzan, is a flowering cherry grown for clusters of double pink blossoms. Choose it for ornamental display rather than an edible cherry harvest.
Key Characteristics
Full pink flowers
Many-petaled blossoms cluster along the branches in spring. The flowers are the main feature, not fruit production.
A widening vase-shaped crown
Young branches rise upward before the mature canopy spreads. Bronze-tinted new foliage becomes green, with yellow to orange-bronze fall color.
Good care starts with the site
Provide sunlight, drainage, and regular moisture while roots establish. Avoid compacted ground and lawn equipment damage around the trunk.

Planting and Ongoing Care
Keep roots moist until planting and water thoroughly afterward. Maintain a mulched, grass-free area with mulch clear of the trunk. Use a soil test to guide feeding; our Tree Planting Kit fertilizer blend is optional and should be used according to its label, away from bare roots.
Watch for borers, cankers, and leaf problems rather than treating preventively without diagnosis. Prune damaged wood appropriately and avoid spraying open flowers.
