The Canadian Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a beautiful and graceful evergreen tree that is native to the northeastern United States and Canada. It is a popular choice for home landscapes and Christmas trees because of its soft, needle-like foliage and its pyramidal shape. The Canadian Hemlock is also a valuable tree for wildlife, providing food and shelter for a variety of birds and mammals. The bark of the Canadian Hemlock has been used by Native Americans for a variety of medicinal purposes.

Native range of species: Eastern Canada to northern Central and eastern United States.

Tree Pollination:
The Canadian Hemlock is a wind-pollinated tree, which means that the wind carries pollen from male flowers to female flowers. In order for Canadian Hemlocks to produce cones, they must be planted in close proximity to other Canadian Hemlocks of the same sex. See our Pollination page for more information on cross-pollination varieties and requirements!
