Brandywine Red Maple (Acer rubrum 'Brandywine')
Brandywine is a male red maple selected for an oval crown and rich fall color. It provides shade without the typical spring crop of winged maple seeds.
Key Characteristics
A red-to-purple autumn canopy
Fall foliage can deepen from red toward purple-red. Timing and color depend on weather and the planting site.
A male selection
Because this cultivar produces male flowers, it does not supply the seed crop of a female red maple. That distinction matters when choosing between tidier ornamental shade and wildlife seed production.
Plan for a shade tree
Allow generous room for the crown and surface roots. Moist, acidic soil is a better fit than a hot, compacted, alkaline site.

Planting and Ongoing Care
Keep roots moist until planting and water thoroughly afterward. Maintain a mulched, grass-free area with mulch clear of the trunk. Use a soil test to guide feeding; our Tree Planting Kit fertilizer blend is optional and should be used according to its label, away from bare roots.
Water through establishment and avoid soil compaction or trunk damage. Base fertilizer on a soil test; excessive feeding does not improve fall color.
