Black Pearl Redbud (Cercis canadensis 'JN16' BLACK PEARL)
Black Pearl is an upright redbud selected for deep purple foliage. Its spring flowers and spreading crown offer a different form from the weeping Ruby Falls.
Key Characteristics
A dark canopy accent
Heart-shaped purple leaves contrast with green shrubs and lighter foliage. Color expression varies with sun exposure and growing conditions.
Spring flowers on bare stems
Pink to lavender flowers appear before the canopy fills. Place it where the flowering branches can be seen against a quieter background.
Allow for width
This is a small tree, not a narrow column. Leave space for a broad crown and avoid crowding it against buildings or other trees.

Keep roots moist until planting and water thoroughly afterward. Maintain a mulched, grass-free area with mulch clear of the trunk. Use a soil test to guide feeding; our Tree Planting Kit fertilizer blend is optional and should be used according to its label, away from bare roots.
Keep roots evenly watered during establishment and inspect stressed branches for cankers. Remove shoots below a graft and prune selectively after bloom.
