Autumn Brilliance serviceberry is a flowering small tree with edible early-summer fruit and orange-red fall color. It fits an edible landscape where fruit, spring bloom, and wildlife forage share the same space.

Key Characteristics

An early fruit harvest

Purple-black berries develop a sweet flavor when fully ripe and can be eaten fresh or cooked. Birds often find them first, so harvest promptly or plan to share.

Food for fruit-eating birds

Serviceberries are eaten by birds including cedar waxwings and American robins. Early white flowers also give visiting bees a spring food source.

A small tree with a full seasonal sequence

White spring bloom is followed by fruit, then orange to red autumn foliage. Give it an open position with good airflow to limit leaf spots and rust while keeping fruit within easier reach.

Pollination Partners

A single tree can produce fruit; a genetically different serviceberry nearby may improve fruit set. This is a named cultivar, so a second Autumn Brilliance is not a genetically different pollen source. Cross-pollination depends on overlapping bloom, not matching harvest months.

Planting and Ongoing Care

Cultivar Color with Practical Care

This hybrid selection is grown for orange-red autumn foliage as well as spring flowers and edible fruit. It can still develop cedar rust or leaf spots; good airflow and a site that avoids heat and drought stress are useful. A second Autumn Brilliance is another copy of the same cultivar, rather than a genetically different tree.
